About Retrostalgic

Hi I'm Mark.

I make web games. I've been making games since around 1994.

This site is about my process of making games.

My History

I independently made games for iOS under the name Sputnik Games, Andrade Arts, and Mark Andrade. The games were originally written in C++ or Obj-C using the Cocos2D framework. Years later the games were ported to Swift and any new games were made with Swift and SpriteKit.

I was employed at Disney Internet Group where I was part of Disney Online's Daily Blast game team. It was fun being a Shockwave game developer as well as the rare game developer on a Mac at that time. I used to keep an Atari 2600, Nintendo 64, and an Apple IIe in my cube to play old games for inspiration. I had a lot of people visit my cube because of that. It was crazy fun.

After Disney I joined Mutation Labs and later The Groove Alliance where I worked on games for Nickelodeon, Disney, Warner Bros, Comedy Central, as well as other entertainment companies.

Retrostalgic Website

Retrostalgic is my place on the internet where I can post my games and write about them. It's always evolving.

It's a static site built with Eleventy and hosted on Cloudflare.

Each game I make has it's own dev log. Some are longer than others. Some shorter. It depends on the project and how much work is involved. Sometimes I go heads down and forget to document. Other times I feel more like documenting than coding.

Each game has an ordered list of dev log entries at the bottom of it's game page.

Multiple games are being developed at one time. If I grow bored with one game I'll move onto the next just to keep me motived. Sometimes I won't work on a game at all and I'll just take a break for a while.
